In late September of this year, I traveled to New York to spend a couple days of vacation. I pondered numerous works of modernism in Whitney museum, strolled on the Brooklyn Bridge, and sipped a cup of tea outside SOHO’s coffee shops. As you may know, between the fluctuating temperatures and crowded subways, embrace styling needs some serious consideration. For every item on the packing list, I am seeking the perfect balance of fashion and function.
Keep scrolling to see how I squeeze my favorite fall pieces into New York daily wears.
Day 1
One-tone is for all

I went for a one-tone look that merged vintage dressing and streetwear for my museum day. Opting for a tonal look actually emphasizes rich materials, such a relief for fashion newcomer confused by color matching. One of my favorite things about fall is that I get to wear versatile blazers for almost every occasion. This navy wool blazer has its all, it keeps you stylish, comfortable and warm. Boxy silhouette has been back on the runway for a few seasons and I’ve always been excited to try it out.

Extending the cool blue palette to cotton-blend straight-leg trousers in military rinse, I hope to neutralize the oversized tailoring of the blazer. Trying to not look like a girl robbing her dad’s closet, I punched it up with an olive green striped silk blouse, adding some romantic vibes for this slightly opposite-attract style. Other feminine accessories like pendants, thin-trimmed geek glasses, and even glittering earrings elevate the concept of one tone dressing by fusing it with playful details.

Day 2
Let the plaid rules

There’s really only a handful of fashion items that truly ignite all the fall feelings in my soul, and plaid pant is one of them. It has been fashion experimenter’s favorite since Cher Horowitz in Clueless made it a cultural icon of the 90s. The tennis sneakers grounded this high-waisted lovely with more retro feelings and surprisingly, the color of the logo on my sneakers corresponds with my pants.

To not steal the show, I throw on my favorite sweater. It’s that time of year when floral dresses and crop top make way for cozy knits. This cream sweater with opened buttons speaks for me desired New York lifestyle, as being comfortable, effortless but still classic. I usually stock up a lot of high-quality basic sweaters in a variety of colors and layer them depending on my mood.
Day 3
Vintage collage inspiration
I have to admit that this look is my personal favorite, every piece just becomes the talker but still complements each other. Honestly, there are no statement pieces because I just can’t decide. Well, if I have to, then the leopard printed blouse and corduroy leather jacket rock their style.

Animal print, though dubbed as “the new neutral”, easily goes beyond control for beginners. I eventually settled on a leopard print blouse with tie bows, layering it underneath a caramel corduroy jacket, to tone down it a bit. Those leather trims on the jacket, particularly what I love, allow for a hint of sexiness weaving through the rigid textile.

I decided to put a late 90s spin on the look with flared smoked black jeans, which was my love at first sight. Fiddler cap is my go-to accessory when I find myself dress too casual. It finishes off this vintage look by instantly adding a dose of tomboyish charm.
A combination like this is surely going to weather through the fluctuating temperature.

I created my New York travel style based on my reimagination of those sparkling moments of New Yorkers. As I always believe, dressing is for fun, I will be thrilled if my travel styles become your outfit inspiration for any occasions.
